CASE STUDY: FLEXIBILITY

The Problem: The company wanted to become more customer-focused and more
profitable. They also wanted to reduce turnover so they could be more competitive.

Our Solution: WFD developed a corporate-wide management training program on
"Managing Work-Life Flexibly." Working with a high-level task force to assess needs
and benchmark the best practices in the industry, we developed a business-based
flexibility policy. An electronic form to request and manage flexible work arrangements
helped us get valuable feedback. All managers were trained in the new approach.

Results: We implemented what we refer to as "a recalibrated approach to flexibility" in
the company's Information Systems Division. This approach showed several positive
results. Operational coverage was increased. Turnover was reduced in a tight labor
market by 8%, particularly among highest-performing employees, enabling the
company to dominate the local IS labor market even with modest pay.
